Name: Victor
Company:
Bertelsmann, Inc.
Location:
New York, NY

I’m a pretty outgoing person who is open for almost anything. I’m really ambitious when it comes to fulfilling goals.

Since I'm very interested in Human Resources Management and IT I want to work in this area after I receive my Masters degree.

My favorite hobbies are music and photography…I’m actually carrying my Nikon almost everywhere (especially in New York).

What life has taught me so far is that if you really want something and you are willing to put every inch of effort into it you will eventually get it.

Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?
Last September I received my Bachelors degree in Media Management majoring in Human Resources Management in Cologne / Germany.

Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences prior to your current position?
I did an internship at a German company called Schüco International KG and at the Bertelsmann headquarters in Germany. Since my main field of interest is Human Resources Management I worked in the Human Resources department focusing on HR Marketing.

What are your current roles and responsibilities?
I'm currently updating the content on our BeRecruiter website. BeRecruiter is a web-based Applicant Management System that our team manages.
I'm also building a German Facebook Fan Site and Group for Bertelsmann.
On top of that I'm getting familiar with our Talent Management Software because some future tasks will deal with this software.

Describe your typical day at your job:
I usually get to work around 9 a.m. After checking my mails, twitter, blogs etc. I start with whatever tasks I have. The morning usually flies by very quick and by 12.30 p.m. we have lunch in our awesome canteen. If it's nice out we just grab some food and go to the Central Park.
Some more work to do in the afternoon and the day is over again. I guess time just flies by if you have fun with what you do.

What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?
I really liked the "Bring your children to work"-Day we had a couple of weeks ago. Every Random House and Bertelsmann employee could bring their kids to work and me and Sascha took pictures for the Random House team.

    If I were a cartoon character, I would be…
Bugs Bunny. I took a quiz on a website and that’s what came out of it. Interpretation:
“You are fun, friendly, and popular. You are a real crowd pleaser. You have probably been out on the town your share of times, yet you come home with the values that your mother taught you. Marriage and children are important to you, but only after you have fun. Don't let the people you please influence you to stray.”

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?
Creativity and open-mindedness as well as being able to network are very important I would say.

Have you had the opportunities to travel as part of your job?
If you consider flying from Germany to New York to start your internship than I guess the answer would be ‘yes’. Besides that I would love to travel a lot more.

Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and its corporate culture?
Yes, I think so. During my six months at the Bertelsmann headquarters in Germany I’ve come to understand pretty good what it means to be a part of such a huge company.

My favorite book, movie and artist are…

Book: What dreams may come (very cheesy, I know)
Movie: My recent favorite would be “Slumdog
                Millionaire”
    Artist: Billy Talent
