Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?
Currently, I am in the 4th year of my study International Business and Management at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Venlo, Netherlands. In order to finish my study with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in July, I write my Bachelor thesis at Bertelsmann.
Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences prior to your current position?
During my study I acquired work experience through an internship at Bosch in Germany. With an international outlook I was part of a multinational team in the country management department. Additionally I have worked in diverse fields such as forwarding business, insurance agencies etc. All impressions and results I can now link to my current internship at Bertelsmann.
What are your current roles and responsibilities?
The focus is on employer branding through social networking. Therefore analysis of the market and the company will be done. The result of my project will be a concept on HR marketing to increase an employer’s attractiveness in the changing environment.
Describe a typical day at your job:
9 AM: Meeting for a hazelnut coffee with my colleagues. The day can start! After checking my E-Mails I set a structure for the day. Mostly I am busy with researching and analyzing the results. Furthermore I create presentations for my colleagues about all findings. At lunch time we eat together with the team in the cafeteria or outside and enjoy good American food. Best way to reload our batteries.
What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?
I wanted to be a part of the international media company and experience the spirit of a successful and creative team in the entertainment area. Bertelsmann is an attractive company which offer many opportunities to build on my career and professional development. Since I am studying International Business and Management I am international oriented and therefore was looking for an international oriented company. Besides, living in New York is a dream for every young person who is looking for challanges, fun and excitement. I love to live in New York City and work on Broadway.
What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?
It was the first day. I was asked to come days earlier to Bertelsmann to get to know the team. I was not prepared for anything; I didn’t even know where exactly Bertelsmann was located. Ok, on Broadway, but Broadway is loooong! So I got on the first subway- but in the wrong direction! In stress, I decided to walk to the building. Perfect, the first day and one hour late!! However, the team was very friendly and appreciative. Due to the fact that it was my first week in New York they gave me good insider tips for shopping, eating, going out etc. The atmosphere in the company is amazing. Since this moment I knew that my internship period will be unforgettable!
If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be?
Marilyn Manroe. This person is a legend and a ideal. A strong woman in the men‘s world. We need more of these women.
Moreover Coco Chanel, Pope Johannes Paul II, Shakespeare, Hofstede, Jude Law, and many, many more
What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?
As an employee it is important to communicate effectively in order to be productive in the company. Teamwork is an important aspect in Bertelsmann as well as in most other companies. Bertelsmann is an entertainment company and therefore demands flexibility, innovation and execution. Having a great passion and spirit for media will lead to a success at Bertelsmann.
Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and it’s corporate culture?
Yes, even though I’ve only been here for two days, the corporate culture of Bertelsmann is mostly about the entrepreneurial freedom.
My favorite book, movie and artist are…
Pride and Prejudice, Sex and the City, Nickolas Sparkes, Teufel traegt prada (many other books from Lauren Weisberger), Bruce Willis, Jennifer Aniston
Finally, please write a paragraph or two about yourself, your interests, hobbies, goals, meaningful life experiences, role models, memories, etc.:
I am Swetlana Rasskasow, 23 years old and nearly at the end of my studies. I am open-minded for nearly every experience which is useful for my personal development. Being around people is something I love. My meaningful life experiences I made mostly during my studies. I had the chance to live for one semester in Hong Kong and explore the Asian culture. Never thought to have such a great time and meet so many new friends. Currently the internship at Bertelsmann in New York is the highlight of the study time. Working one day in New York was always a dream. With these experiences I also recognize how much support I get from my family, my boy friend and my friends who are always there for me- doesn’t matter where I am.
