Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?
I am in the last semester from my study. I am studying Sport Management at RheinAhrCampus Remagen University of Applied Sciences, in Germany. After my internship I will have to write my Bachelor Thesis. After I graduate I plan to continue with my Master’s Degree.
Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences prior to your current position?
Before I started studying I was a professional soccer player. Unfortunately I had to stop my career due to injuries. During my study I did two internships, during the first internship I worked for a Sports Management Company “WK-Fair-Play GmbH”. During my second internship I worked for a professional German Soccer Club. It is a club with a good track history “1. FC Kaiserslautern” they are also called the Red Devils. I was also a CEO for two years for our Alumni organization Sports Management “SPORAC e.v.”. I will try and work hard to bring my experience and ideas to Bertelsmann HR Services North America department.
What are your current roles and responsibilities?
During the first few weeks, I studied the Company and the several divisions from Bertelsmann. Currently, I am working on several projects for the HR Services department. It is very important for me to be successful with these projects and to integrate the projects in the HR Services department.
Describe a typical day at your job:
I start my day at 9am. First I check my mails, schedule and I continue working on my projects. I have a coffee break with the intern and my coworkers. For the rest of the day, I work on my projects and learn new things. For most lunches, I eat with my coworkers in the cafeteria at the Random House building but sometimes we will eat outside and enjoy the weather. If it is a normal workday, I am done by 6 PM.
What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?
It has been a dream of mine to work for a big company like Bertelsmann and it is very important to me, to experience and understand how a huge international media company functions successfully. The HR aspect of running a company has always been an interest of mine. The combination of working for Bertelsmann and the chance to experience and live in New York has been an unbelievable opportunity for me. Bertelsmann is a company with many great aspects which provides opportunities to me, and it will help me realize my own interest in the business world and to focus on my career.
What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?
My most memorable moment has been the preparation and presentation with the other interns, to my colleagues, the structure, divisions and Social Media branding of Bertelsmann. The presentation went very well. After the presentation, Mio and his coworkers gave us feedback. This feedback was the best I ever received. It was absolutely professional. The other interns and I learned a lot from this. THANK YOU!!!
If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be?
A person I really respect is Nelson Mandela. He was able to endure controversy, and extreme hard times in life, and he has been able to turn his negative experiences around for the good of a nation and the world.
What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?
It is very important to have strong communication skills and to be a team player. Bertelsmann is an innovative media company and I believe it is important to be flexible in the development of ideas and to have entrepreneur’s mind. Having a great passion and spirit for media will lead to success at Bertelsmann.

Currently my job does not require traveling; however I am very interested in visiting many other great places in the USA.
Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and it’s corporate culture?
Yes, I do now because I spent some time studying the company. This was very helpful for me. The culture of Bertelsmann is about entrepreneurial freedom.

Finally, please write a paragraph or two about yourself, your interests, hobbies, goals, meaningful life experiences, role models, memories, etc.:
My passion in life was soccer; becoming a professional soccer player was a dream come true. It required hard work and endless hours of training. The whole family was involved in supporting my dream. Being a professional athlete is a hard business, and you have to grow up quickly and you have to learn to deal with hardship and disappointments early on in life. Due to my adventures nature, I chose to play in Scotland for a year.
Unfortunately I endured many injuries, and after 5 surgeries on my ankle I realized that my dream as a professional soccer player had come to an end. Of course this was one of the biggest disappointments in my life. However I realized that I needed a new dream and focus, and I decided to pursue a Master’s Degree. I am a person who always thinks big and outside of the box. I don’t take ‘no’ for an answer and I will create new possibilities and opportunities. The positive side is that life can be very exciting living this way, but at the same time, it can also be a hard road.
