Meet Michelle...

Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?
I am currently a student at St. John’s University earning a BS in Advertising & Communications and a minor in Business Administration. I plan to obtain a law degree within the next few years.

Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences prior to your current position?
I do have prior work experience, but you could say this is the road to “creating my own career.” I have been an intern at Bertelsmann for a month now and plan to utilize all the experience I get from this opportunity.

What are your current roles and responsibilities?
Everyday I am doing something new. My current tasks and responsibilities include editing areas of the Bertelsmann websites, assist in reaching out to the youth and informing them about the company. Some things that I have touched up on and plan to work with a little bit more are assisting with youtube videos, blogging, and working on a facebook page to help reach out to more people.

Describe a typical day at your job:
The first thing I do is get a cup of coffee! I check my E-mail to see what tasks I have in store for me. If I’m done working on a prior project ill check to see if there is anything another colleague needs me to help them out with. I usually work on a different project everyday, so it’s exciting. There is never a dull day. 

What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?
I was informed about this opportunity through my university. When I first learned about the company the fact that it was such a huge international media company really caught my attention. As I researched more on the company I began to like more and more things about it. They had so many different kinds of opportunities and best of all the location. I love being in the heart of New York City! My favorite thing about my job is the lively atmosphere. The people here are great, even if you have a full schedule of work it never feels that way. My second favorite? The food is pretty awesome!

What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?
So far I would have to say getting to know the team members is my most memorable moment, well I should say are my most memorable moments. There is never a dull moment here.

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be?
Marilyn Monroe because I believe she was a very strong woman.

If I were a cartoon character, I would be…
Snoopy, he seems like a very wise and independent pup, and he gets his message across without saying a word!

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?
You must be energetic, determined, well- rounded, a team player, and not hesitant to suggest ideas.

Have you had the opportunity to travel as part of your job?
No

Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and it’s corporate culture?
Yes, I feel everyone must have an understanding of the company’s core values before they start the job.

Book: A Streetcar Named Desire
Movie: Sex and the City- It made you laugh, cry, scream, and show any emotion you are capable of showing within 2 hours!
