My life in a nutshell:
I’m a senior at St. John’s University in Queens, NY majoring in computer science. Other than an interest in computers, programming and web surfing my hobbies outside of that are sports, sports and more sports which pretty much means almost any sport to watch and/or play. I’m pretty much a sports geek as far as hobbies are concerned
As for goals, I am setting my sights on a steady job down the road somewhere in the IT field. One good reason for an internship other than experience is it helps to narrow my focus on a career path.
My role models are my mom and dad as well as Superman and Batman of course. I am looking forward to not only making a contribution to the team during my time as an intern but to also take as much as I can out of this experience as well.
Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?
I am currently a senior at St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY pursuing my Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business.
Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences prior to your current position?
As a full-time student in college, this experience will be the first in a professional atmosphere.
What are your current roles and responsibilities?
I am learning how to manage web sites
Describe a typical day at your job:
I am usually involved in small projects which allow me to help in the management of the websites such as adding images or text to web pages. I am also given the opportunity to create things such as snippets and later on into the internship I will be working on a website project.
What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?
The thought of working for a company that is involved in so many aspects in the world of media is what attracted me to Bertelsmann. The location is also great. There is nothing like a working experience in the middle of all the action that is Manhattan!
What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?
The most memorable moment of my job is working with all the people around me. I am able to learn so much working with and learning from the team.
If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be?
Manny Pacquiao , boxer. He gives inspiration and through boxing is able to show how those small in stature can take on big odds.
IfI were a cartoon character, I would be…
Wile E. Coyote. He tries and tries and tries again no matter what. As a computer science major who has had his fair share of run ins with impossible errors with many a programming language it’s a quality I share with this character.
What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?
It is necessary to have a team player mentality, a positive attitude, organization and a willingness to solve problems. A sense of humor is also a big plus!
Have you had the opportunity to travel as part of your job?
No, but it would be a fun experience to do so
Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and it’s corporate culture?
After a lot of research I feel I have a good understanding of what Bertelsmann’s corporate culture is all about. It is rich in many different outlets of media from books to television and everything in between.
